Pet Hair, Smoke Odor & Stain Removal: Reset Your Interior
Quick answer
Pet hair, smoke odor, and set-in stains are the three interior issues we get the most calls about on Long Island. All three are solvable: heavy pet hair extraction is a $50 add-on to any Interior or Full Detail, smoke/odor enzyme + ozone treatment is also $50, and most stains come out during the standard carpet shampoo and steam extraction. The right service combination depends on what's actually in the cabin.

Three interior problems generate the majority of our urgent calls — pet hair, smoke odor, and set-in stains. They’re the issues that make people Google “mobile interior detailer” instead of just booking maintenance, and they’re the issues we solve most consistently. Here’s how each one actually gets fixed, what to book, and what to expect.
Heavy pet hair: the rubber-tool extraction that vacuums can’t replace
Standard vacuuming removes loose hair. It does almost nothing for the hair that’s worked itself into carpet pile, fabric weaves, and the gaps where seats meet the floor. Six months of a golden retriever, a Bernese, or any double-coated breed produces hair density that no vacuum — household or shop — touches.
The fix is a specialized rubber tool: a small hand block with stiff rubber bristles that grip embedded hair and pull it loose. Combined with a fabric brush attachment on the vacuum and a microfiber wipe-down, the rubber tool extracts hair the vacuum can’t reach. We’ve reset vehicles where the carpet looked permanently embedded in fur to factory condition in a single 90-minute add-on session.
What to book: Interior Detail ($175 sedan / $200 SUV) or Full Detail ($300 sedan / $350 SUV) with the Pet Hair Removal (Heavy) add-on (+$50). Light pet hair is included in the standard Interior or Full Detail; the heavy add-on is for vehicles where shedding has accumulated for 3+ months.
What to expect: Two to three hours of cabin work depending on density. We’ll show you the extracted hair (it’s surprisingly satisfying). For ongoing pet vehicles, the Bi-Weekly Quick Detail subscription prevents accumulation and removes the need for the heavy add-on going forward.
Smoke odor: source removal, then neutralization
Smoke odor — cigarette, cigar, or vape — embeds into three places: cloth seats and carpet, the headliner, and the HVAC system. Surface masking with air fresheners doesn’t solve it; the smell returns within hours when the vehicle warms up. Real smoke odor removal requires both removing the residue holding the smell, and neutralizing what remains.
Step 1: Source removal. A deep Interior Detail extracts nicotine residue from cloth and carpet via shampoo and steam, cleans the headliner (which absorbs more smoke than people realize), conditions leather, and steam-cleans vents to push smoke residue out of the HVAC ducting.
Step 2: Neutralization. The $50 Smoke / Odor Treatment add-on combines an enzyme cleaner (which breaks odor molecules at the chemical level) with an ozone or hydroxyl treatment (which oxidizes residual VOCs in the cabin air). The combination removes the smell rather than masking it.
What to book: Full Detail ($300 sedan / $350 SUV) with the Smoke / Odor Treatment add-on (+$50). Interior Detail alone works if the exterior is already clean.
What to expect: A single comprehensive treatment usually solves cigarette and vape smell. Heavy long-term smoking (years of daily smoking in the same vehicle) sometimes requires a second pass; we’ll confirm honestly after the first visit. Mildew, food, and pet odors respond to the same treatment.
Set-in stains: the steam extraction step
Coffee. Salt rings. Sunscreen. Dropped food. Set-in stains on cloth seats and carpet are the most common issue we resolve, and most of them respond to the standard carpet shampoo and steam extraction process included in an Interior Detail or Full Detail. No add-on needed for typical staining — it’s part of the base service.
Stains that come out reliably during a standard Interior Detail:
- Coffee, soda, juice, water bottles
- Sunscreen (cloth and leather)
- Salt rings (under 6 months old)
- Light food spills
- Dirt and mud from beach trips
- Sweat staining on cloth seats
Stains that may need additional treatment:
- Long-set salt rings (6+ months) — often need 2-3 passes
- Bleach or chemical damage — discoloration may be permanent
- Ink (some types come out, others don’t)
- Permanent marker — varies by surface
- Severe mold staining — the smell removes; the visible discoloration may persist
For ambiguous stains, we’ll do a test patch first and confirm what we can remove before committing to the full service.
When to book interior-only vs. full detail
Three quick decision rules:
Interior issues only, exterior is already clean: Book an Interior Detail ($175 sedan) with appropriate add-ons. 3-4 hours.
Interior issues plus exterior has gone neglected (3+ months): Book a Full Detail ($300 sedan) with appropriate add-ons. 4-6 hours, $50-100 less than booking the two services separately.
Maintenance after fixing the issue: Move onto a Bi-Weekly Quick Detail subscription to keep things from re-accumulating. The recurring cadence prevents pet hair density from rebuilding and catches new spills before they set.
A few honest expectations
Three things worth being upfront about.
Older damage may not fully reverse. Cloth seats with five years of accumulated daily wear may not look new, even after a perfect detail. We’ll tell you honestly what’s recoverable before starting.
Headliner is delicate. Heavily smoked vehicles sometimes have headliners that are saturated to the point that cleaning may cause sagging. We’ll inspect first and recommend whether to attempt the clean or leave the headliner alone.
Vehicles need to be present and stationary. Smoke / odor treatments and ozone require 4-8 hours including treatment time. We can perform this at your home but the vehicle needs to remain stationary during the cycle — usually fine for the standard work day.
